Noida: Noida Special Task Force (STF) team have arrested four members of an inter-state robbers’ gang and recovered 1305 mobile phones worth Rs 1 crore 31 lakh which they robbed from a truck of a Noida based mobile company.
Cops said that the gang allegedly robbed a truck carrying 6,000 mobile phones of Vivo company in July last year when the truck was transporting consignment for shipping from the factory site in Ecotech-I area in Greater Noida to Bluedart company in Phase-II Noida.
According to police, the arrested persons have been identified as Abhishek Giri, Ajeet Kumar, Yashvir and Shubhash. Police said that all these accused hail from Aligarh district of Uttar Pradesh.
“Acting on a tip-off from an informer, the arrest was made from near the newly constructed Alpha metro station in Greater Noida on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday. The accused also carried a country made pistol with live ammunition with them,” said R K Mishra, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Noida STF.
Police officials said that the four arrested men, on questioning, revealed that they were trying to sell the stolen phones to the markets of Delhi-NCR region through some agent.
“During sustained interrogations, the accused confessed that they had kept these mobile phones at a rented room in Aligarh district and were supposed to sell them with the help of an agent. Abhishek Giri also told police that soon after committing the robbery, he contacted a person named Chetan from his own village to sell these mobile phones but Chetan was nabbed by police while he was taking few mobile phones to sell in the market,” added Mishra.
The officer further informed that the truck driver, Ashok Kumar, allegedly took the vehicle carrying mobile phones towards a hideout of the gang and handed over the cellphones to the five-member gang.
